# Edit the setup of a segment

As your criteria or business needs change, you can update a segment's conditions without recreating it from scratch. Because segments are dynamic, contacts are re-evaluated against the new criteria and added to or removed from the segment automatically.

1. From the sidebar, select **Audiences**, then click **Lists & segments**.
2. Use the search bar to find a segment, or locate one from the list.
3. Click the three dots on the right hand side, then click the **Edit segment** button.
4. Make any edits to the audience using the filtering system. You can add or remove conditions and condition groups, change attribute or event filters, and switch between "and/or" logic, in the same way you would when [creating a segment](/applications/audience/lists-and-segments/quickstarts/create-a-segment.md).
5. Click **Save** > **Save segment**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Clicking **Save segment** will edit the existing segment. Clicking **Save as a new segment** will create a new segment with your new settings while preserving the original segment.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
If the segment is used as a trigger in a journey or as an audience in a scheduled campaign, editing its criteria changes who that journey or campaign reaches going forward. Review any active journeys or campaigns that use the segment before making significant changes.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://messagebird.gitbook.io/applications/audience/lists-and-segments/how-to/edit-the-setup-of-a-segment.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
